Company philosophy
I
like to work in a sprit of partnership with my
clients, and try to
operate my business on the principle that you cannot succeed by gaining at someone else's expense.
We both need to benefit from our business interaction: you gain by having
a more secure network with computers that perform dependably in support of your
business, and I receive fair compensation for my expertise and dedication to the maintenance
of your Information Technology resources.

Company history
Duke IS &
IT Services was formed in April 2005 to provide
micro-, small- and mid-size companies with advice and services that contribute to your
business success:
managed
services at aggressively low rates;
proactive
risk assessment and reduction, including
planning for Business Continuity and
Disaster Recovery;
rapid response
and restoration of your critical systems when
they fail;
and for
mid-size or large
organizations with branch offices, network and application performance analysis.
My Background
I have worked in the
Telecommunications and Information
Technology sectors for more than 25 years.
From 1978 to 1988, I focused on the use of
low-speed (6.6 to 120 charcaters per second)
office automation equipment with Telex/TWX
and early email networks like GTE Telemail
and Western Union EasyLink accessed through
the public switched telephone network.
Starting in 1989, I began supporting large
and small corporate data networks.
From 1992-1997 I operated my first IT
consulting company, Effective
Telecommunications in San Jose. In
1995, I won first place in the web design
competition at Mactivity without the aid of
anything like DreamWeaver or FrontPage, and
came away with an Apple PowerMac 6150
Workgroup Server. From 1997 until my
retirement in 2005, I provided 2nd and 3rd
level operational network support for
Electronic Data Systems Corp accounts in the
SF Bay Area.
My experience with computer networks extends
back into the days when ArcNet and TokenRing
competed against twisted-pair Ethernet:
I've even had to pinpoint the location of
bad transceivers in thick and thin coax by
dividing networks in half! I've helped
resolve TCP/IP application performance
issues for personal computers and UNIX
systems communicating with mainframes in
large data centers. For the past 5 years or
so, I've specialized in network monitoring
and performance analysis using SNMP- and NetFlow-based tools.
Additional Resources
I maintain
partnerships with other IT professionals for
mutual backup and situations where special
expertise is needed, such as QuickBooks
Professional Advisors, custom Crystal Reports
coders, installing code-compliant network wiring
or VoIP PBX systems. Our security
engagements are conducted in association with a
California licensed Private Investigator.
